Jonell Hester of Rugby hosted a Tennessee Mountain Laurel Festival Quilt Show planning session last week. A one of a kind Heritage Quilt is being made to celebrate the beauty of the flowering shrub and the talent of the Quilters of our area. Brenda Duke and Jonell designed an original one of a kind Mountain Laurel fabric to be used in our unique Heritage Quilt.
IT IS THE HOPE OF THE COMMITTEE EVERY COMMUNITY IN OUR COUNTY WILL BE CONTRIBUTING A BLOCK SINCE IT IS A HERITAGE QUILT AND REPRESENTS THE TALENT OF OUR QUILTERS FROM ALL AREAS. EACH BLOCK WILL BE SIGNED BY THE QUILTER AND THE COMMUNITY IN WHICH THEY LIVE.
A limited number of fat eight kits containing the original fabric and instructions for the quilt block are available. The cost of the kit is $5.00 to defray cost of the fabric. The quilt block design can be the quilters choice, but it must contain some of the Mountain Laurel fabric. Thirty blocks are needed and must be returned as soon as possible and by April 1. Each block will be signed by the quilter leaving an historic remembrance of the 2017 Tennessee Mountain Laurel Festival.
A donation drawing will be held to determine the recipient of this special exhibit.
The planners are asking Quilters within our county to bring their quilts for exhibition during the Festival between 1 and 5 on Friday May 19. Place for the exhibit to be announced.
We need help in making the Quilt Show the best it can be. Please volunteer to help in whatever way your time allows. We want to show those who attend the talent of our county.
Under the sponsorship of the Morgan County Tourism Alliance, The Tennessee Mountain Laurel Festival will be held Saturday May 20 at the Courthouse Square in Wartburg.
